In 2002 I saw tvhe movie Assassination Tango, and after watching just two and a half minutes of Pablo Veron dancing to "Una Emocion", I was in love. One year later I would take my first tango lesson. Without exaggeration I can truly say that it has changed my life.
There are many ideas of what tango is or is not, of what the embrace should be, how one should dance and so on; however, apart from purely technical issues, I simply believe that such things are between the man and the woman, what energy they are feeling, the physical space available and what the music is saying to them. Tango is, first and foremost, between the man and the woman; if there is no connection, no musicality, then there is no tango. This dance (speaking of social dancing) is a conversation and if your partner enjoys what you are saying then it really does not matter what the spectators think.
Some of my favourite dancers (in no particular order) are Mauricio Castro, Ezequiel Paludi & Sabrina Masso, Roberto Reis, Facundo & Kely Posadas, Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli, Lucia Mazer and Julio Balmaceda. Of course there are more, as I am always finding a new favourite dancer.
